The Public Authority for Stores and Food Reserve was established by Royal Decree No.62/1980, with its main role and basic objective to continuously provide basic food commodities, and to assure their storage in warehouses of high technical specifications, to be valid for local use, and responsive to the necessities of quick intervention in cases of emergency in the Sultanate, such as exceptional and abnormal climatic storms and hurricanes. The public Authority For Stores and Food Reserve would provide the basic commodities continuously and efficiently, and secure its storage in high tech warehouses to be fit for human consumption, to cover the local needs in emergencies like exceptional weather conditions. It also aims to establish stability in basic commodities in case of international economic crisis like an increase in these commodities prices, to make them as affordable as possible to everyone.
