Salalah Methanol Company LLC (SFZ) was incorporated on February 27 2006. It 90% owned by Oman Oil Company S.A.O.C . and the remaining 10% by Takamul Investment Company, S.A.O.C. EPC contractor of the plant was GS Engineering & Construction of Korea. The facility is based on Johnson Matthey, LP methanol production technology licensed by Jacobs consultancy and has a name plate capacity of 3000 Metric Tons per day. The feed stock is natural gas, supplied by the Ministry of Oil and Gas through Oman Gas Company. The offtake of SMC’s production is managed by Oman Trading International Ltd (OTI) who handles the marketing of the product globally. OTI has a long term time charter contract for two methanol carriers (Matrah and AlAmerat) with Oman Shipping Company S.A.O.C. The product is exported from the Salalah Port facilities which are in the immediate vicinity of the plant. Salalah Methanol Plant is a standalone plant designed to produce methanol of Federal AA & IMPCA grade. The plant’s key features includes sea water intake, captive power generation, captive water desalination, auxiliary steam generation, nitrogen generation, product handling through a product loading facility at Port of Salalah and other utilities, including effluent & sewage treatment facilities.
