The MEP functions as a central point among the various ministries and government agencies with respect to streamlining collective efforts towards unified socioeconomic goals. In this vein, the MEP offers services directly to other government entities – in addition, to internal government employees- that subsequently provide services to the public. In effect, the MEP serves as a collaborative facilitator to achieve national priorities.
In line with the Kingdom’s historical economic and planning trajectory, which spans over 40 years, the MEP continues to align all government agencies’ work in a coordinated manner in order to achieve the priorities of our policy makers, and ultimately, ensure the country’s sustained socioeconomic development.
The MEP’s primary role is to:
Strategically advance the Kingdom’s vision for long-term development, based on insights on domestic and international economic trends
Facilitate private sector engagement in achieving the Kingdom’s socioeconomic development goals, in close collaboration with other ministries, relevant entities, and businesses
Actively support other ministries and government agencies to achieve their strategic objectives, by offering to collaborate, technically advise, provide research, etc.
Contribute to drafting economic policies and implementing programs that will serve to achieve national priorities and objectives
Comprehensively prepare the quinquennial national development plans, as well as evaluate their implementation in order to measure their effectiveness and impact
In close coordination with the Ministry of Finance, estimate the necessary budget allocations required to implement plan directives and national priorities
Conduct vital economic studies and publish periodic reports, in addition to providing recommendations to relevant entities based on research outcomes.
