Norconsult began business life as part of a Norwegian group founded in 1957 to purse Consultancy and Technical advice opportunities in Norway and the surrounding countries. The Longem family started investing in the group in 1959 and consolidated ownership throughout the 1960’s eventually owning a 100%.
The Company partnered a number of other Norwegian consulting companies to market their services individually and internationally through a jointly established corporate entity, named Norconsult International AS. At this time the company was specializing in Telecommunications, IT and Defence. The consortium, Norconsult International AS, yielded its first infrastructure project in the Middle East in the 1960’s and its first telecom project in 1969. Since then many Projects have been completed throughout the world.
In 1995, a Cypriot company was established and international telecoms Projects were spun off into this company, which was under the common control of the Longem family. At this time Norconsult trading as, Norconsult Telematics pursued international opportunities for Telecommunications, IT and Defence projects, consulting from the new base in Cyprus. The company has retained its Norwegian brand with the senior management team mainly coming from Norway, although the various Project teams were drawn from many countries. In this period the focus for the business was in the growing economies of the ME and SE Asia.
In 1994, Norconsult International AS, now known as Norconsult Telematics, a wholly owned subsidiary of Norconsult, was awarded the contract to manage and supervise what was at the time the largest telecommunications project in the world, TEP6/GSM, a $5 Billion plus Project in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This contract was completed in 2003 and required more than 12,000 man-months of Consultancy. Since 1990 Norconsult Telematics has successfully completed Projects in Kuwait, UAE, Oman, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines, Pakistan, Myanmar, Mongolia, El Salvador and Venezuela.
