In our design practice we blend both fundamental and interpretative attributes into a powerful mix that appeals evocatively to the modern-day mind. Beauty and strength are two universal qualities that speak to the heart. Other key elements, such as flexibility and grace, we distill from established cultural frameworks and traditions.
Our approach does not draw on such Western concepts of style as Classicism or Modernism. Nor do we adhere to traditional Japanese aesthetics. Our aim is to inspire with designs that elicit a primal, innate emotional response even as they address the contradictions and tensions of contemporary life.
We live in an age when no single vocabulary be it style, monism, harmony, or any other mode in and of itself is adequate. Attuning our sensibilities to the myriad contextual demands of each project is the first step to determining materials, compositions, and color schemes. These solutions in turn become our basis for expressing both the unity and the discord that lie just beneath the surface of our everyday lives. We believe this philosophy creates timeless spaces that strike powerful chords deep inside all of us, resonating meaningfully with the realities of today’s world.
