Description

As one of the most significant artistic and cultural developments in a generation, the Beirut Museum of Art (BeMA) is more than a museum.
With a focus on modern and contemporary art from Lebanon and the Middle East, it is envisioned as a cultural hub that will encourage local artistic creation, foster dialogue and enable cross-cultural collaboration. The museum is also pledged to showcase all forms of art, including sculpture, photography, video, performance and installation pieces.

In addition to its extensive collection of Modern and Contemporary Lebanese art, drawn from the national archive and put on public display for the first time, BeMA will focus on creating opportunities for the production of new work through artist residencies, commissions and cultural partnerships.

Committed to nurturing Lebanon’s active and creative civil society, BeMA will offer a wide variety of cultural and educational programs designed to promote awareness and appreciation of the arts. As an independent institution, it will engage with every community equally and through academic research and public education, become a place of discourse and creativity.

The museum’s innovative design draws inspiration from Beirut and seeks to reflect the city’s dynamic, multifaceted nature. It is the work of one of Lebanon’s leading architectural studios, HW Architecture. Led by Lebanese-French architect, Hala Wardé, the studio was selected by a jury of independent experts through an international competition.
