Bas Smets has a background in landscape architecture, civil engineering and architecture. He founded his office in Brussels in 2007 and has constructed projects in more than 10 countries with his team of 15 architects and landscape architects. These projects vary in scale from territorial visions to infrastructural landscapes, from large parks to private gardens, from city centers to film sets. He often teams up with architects, artists and scientists. His recent collaborations include projects with Frank Gehry, Annabelle Selldorf, REX, Jean Nouvel, Kazuyo Sejima and Office KGDVS.
Bas Smets has extensive experience with the design of landscapes for cultural facilities. He has been working with the Luma Foundation of Maja Hoffmann in Arles to design a large park around the centerpiece tower designed by Frank Gehry. In September 2016 his large park around the new Estonian National Museum was inaugurated in Tartu.
