The company was formerly known as Alsop Design Limited. As a result of the acquisition of Alsop Design Limited by SMC Group PLC, Alsop Design Limited's name was changed. SMC Alsop is based in London, with additional offices in Toronto, Canada; Singapore; and Shanghai and Beijing, China. As of March 23, 2006, SMC Alsop Architects operates as a subsidiary of SMC Group PLC.
